Snow Daze!

Well, we've gotten a butt-load of snow!! This is ridiculous in VA if you ask me! All told between these last two storms we got about 40". It's annoying to get that amount of snow anywhere, but it's downright debilitating in this area. They have no idea how to clear it and nowhere to put it. We saw a plow on our street only once since the beginning of the snow last Friday night! The good news is that Brian got two snow days out of the deal. They closed the job on Wednesday, and he couldn't get out of the driveway on Thursday so he stayed home again. The bad news is that he's scheduled to work all weekend.

LJ is wondering where is backyard went. He can barely get around because the snow is taller than he is. Brian trampled a narrow path through the backyard so that he can at least get more than two feet from the steps.

We're all getting cabin fever so we've been braving the cold, wind, and snow to take some short walks. Emilia doesn't really know what to think about all of it. These pictures were taken after the first snowstorm. I haven't taken any pictures of her outside since the second storm came through...just too cold and windy. As you can see the snow is nearly as tall as she is.

She decided to taste snow just to see what it was like...I guess now is the time to teach her about the dangers of "yellow snow". She was surprised by how cold it was, but ate quite a bit more before I cut her off. Silly lady!!

Here is the video(s) that belongs with the last post. I had to split it into two so that it would upload.

Snow Day!!

I may be the worst blogger ever! We've been pretty busy lately so here is a new post. Sorry it's been so long.

We got more snow today...boo! However, on the bright side, Emilia got to try out her new snowsuit and boots. Up until this point she has only gotten to wear them to keep warm on walks sans snow. We got about 5 inches today, and it's still flurrying on and off right now. We took a walk anyway, because we all needed to get out! After a while out in the flurries Emilia had snow on her eyelashes (one of the only parts of her that was exposed).

Once we got back on our street we got Emilia out of the stroller to explore the white stuff. She fell down almost immediately and couldn't get herself back up without help.

She was alright once she got back on her feet, but she was still having a difficult time on the icy snow.
She did much better when she was holding daddy's hand and walked around much more sure-footed.
Once she had played for a little while we were all cold and ready to head home. She walked a good part of the way up the street by herself but needed a little bit of help from daddy!

Her cheeks and nose were all rosy once she was all unbundled!

Happy 2010!!

Better late than never to write a New Year post. Mom and Dad came down to spend the holiday with Emilia and LJ while Brian, Lauren and I went to a party at the Broadways'. It was a great time with great friends and, surprisingly, everyone was in good shape in the morning!!

The bat was requested and even Lauren partook in the festivities!

Emilia had a wonderful evening with Mammaw and Pappaw, and we had a great surf and turf dinner on New Year's Day. It was a wonderful visit!

Merry Christmas!!

Merry Christmas everyone! We have had a marathon holiday season this year. We made the trek up to PA for Christmas. Our holiday started with Christmas Eve dinner at mom and dad's house with the whole family.

Then all the grandkids opened stockings and gifts from Mammaw and Pappaw.

Christmas morning was a great time at mom and dad's. We did the whole Christmas morning thing - opened gifts and had breakfast (Emilia had two breakfasts)!

Mammaw and Pappaw got her a great new snowsuit

and a Sit & Spin...

...which Emilia has decided is a Stand & Spin.

On Christmas afternoon the WHOLE family got together. We drank (some more than others..Lauren), enjoyed each others' company, and celebrated!

One of the best parts of the holiday was that all Mammaw and Pappaw's grandkids got together for the first time (including Livia). Emilia wasn't too thrilled when I was holding her, but she loved her every other time.

Everyone found a place in the crazy house. Nanna with her newest great-granddaughter...

...and LJ under the food table!

On Saturday we had Christmas at Grami's house. Grami got her a beautiful cross necklace and a great outfit. She also got her a pony that connects to the TV. We have to hook it up and take it for a spin. We had a wonderful afternoon together!

After that we went to Grandpop and Jeanne's house to visit for a little while. Emilia had a great time meandering around their house and rocking on the magazine basket with Grandpop's help.

Finally, we came home and had Emilia's Christmas from Santa under her own tree. LuLu came over first thing in the morning to watch Emi open her gifts. She got new clothes, books, and some new toys. She, of course, walked around with clothing on a hanger (her favorite).

After all that we had New Year's Eve to look forward to (NYE post to follow)!

SNOW...yuck!

We got snow...17 inches.
No one is happy about this. We've been shoveling our way out of the snow since the town is not really capable of clearing snow. When we left on Christmas Eve there was a thick layer of ice on our road because they had only been down with the plow once and didn't really do much of anything. We are hoping that when we get home it's gone (or nearly gone) and we can go back to normal.
Emilia hasn't played in the snow except for picking up what was scraped in from the back deck when I closed the back door. I'm sure we would enjoy it but she was getting her snowsuit for Christmas. LJ hates the snow and only goes outside when it's absolutely necessary.

Livia Harley Rechtorovic

Emilia is a big cousin!! With the hullaballoo of the holidays I haven't gotten a chance to post that our newest niece was born on December 14, 2009! Jaime was in labor for about 20 minutes, and then there was Liv. She weighed 6 lb. 7 oz. and was 18 1/4" long. Everyone is doing great, and her big siblings LOVE her!
